pre- is a clothing project based in Osaka, Japan.
We develop garments through pattern making, sewing, repair work, and ongoing experimentation. Our work moves between clothing production, alteration, costume design, and one-of-a-kind pieces, with each project informing the next.
Alongside the project, we operate a clothing repair studio. Through daily encounters with worn, damaged, and altered garments, we observe how clothing changes over time and adapts to the people who wear it. These observations often become the starting point for new designs.
Rather than pursuing a single style or a final form, we are interested in clothing as an ongoing process. Garments continue to change through use, repair, alteration, and interpretation.
The name pre- refers not to something unfinished, but to a condition that remains open.
"Out of a Fix" reflects this approach — keeping things in motion rather than settling into fixed meanings, functions, or outcomes.

pre-では衣服を完成されたものとしてではなく、着用や修理、改変によって変化し続けるプロセスとして捉えています。
日々のお直しの仕事を通して、衣服がどのように使われ、傷み、直されていくのかを観察しています。その経験は新しい服づくりの出発点にもなっています。
pre-という名前は未完成であることではなく、固定されない状態を意味しています。
